Wisconsin Assembly District 80: Brett Davis vs. Wisconsin Women
The Monroe Times reports that Republican State Rep. Brett Davis is opening his campaign headquarters this week. Davis “represents” a district where Russ Feingold got almost 63% of the vote and John Kerry got over 55%.
This is far from a conservative stronghold. But you wouldn't know it by looking at Davis' voting record. Last legislative session he voted with Republican Speaker John Gard 95% of the time.
His votes against women are especially disconcerting.
Davis voted for the Patient Abandonment Bill which would have allowed health care providers to withhold vital information about certain treatments, even when a woman’s life depends on it, and would have allowed them to deny a patient referral or transfer to another doctor if they feel the proposed treatment is against their religious beliefs. Thank you Governor Doyle for that veto.
Davis also voted against bringing the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Bill to the Assembly floor for a vote. This bill would require hospital emergency rooms to provide rape victims with information about and access to emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy.
I wonder if the sign on his campaign headquarters will read "No Girls Allowed!"
